Oh the wedding shower. I don’t know why, but this has been something I’ve been dreading. The thought of opening presents in front of a big group of people honestly sounds awful. I know..I’m weird!
Then I wasn’t sure who to invite! I will also be having a bachelorette party, so I thought I would just invite friends to that and family to the bridal shower. Then I decided to invite a couple of friends. And a couple more. And since I invited so-and-so I had to invite those other friends, too. Pretty much like trying to make the guest list for the wedding–ha!
It’s been kind of fun though wedding planning in my not-so-spare time.
Since we last talked, I’ve been pretty consumed with managing a student organization at UNO called NE STEM 4U. Consumed as in it’s basically been a part-time job in addition to my actual part-time job and full-time schooling. It is a fellowship so I thankfully get paid, but it’s by the month–not the hour, so I’ve been a little busier than expected! I’m also realizing how much of a mom role I have to play with managing college kids, but the group is still pretty awesome. π
I’m also getting ready to start my first major practicum for my Elementary Education degree in October, so I figured I should get started on stuff like the wedding shower early. Like September early. That makes it 3 months before the wedding.
Please hold while I panic that it’s just over 3 months until our wedding!
Okay, I’m back.
Anyways, since we are planning the shower relatively early (and everyone is so busy), planning has been a little rushed. We planned on sending out physical invites a couple of weeks ago, but since we hadn’t been able to print them I just decided to set up a Facebook event in the meantime.
I kind of wish we could just do all of the wedding invites via Facebook (imagine the money and paper saved!), but alas we live in Nebraska and a lot of our family is pretty traditional. Thus sending the physical invites.
I am still even a little unsure of the online RSVP for our actual wedding. (Thank you to those of you who have already RSVP’ed!) We will probably have to do physical RSVP’s as well.
Key Components of our Bridal Shower:
-Mimosa Bar (priorities)
-Games to play so that everyone isn’t staring at me while I open presents
-Outdoor patio to drink mimosas on (should be perfect fall weather in September!)
-Enough seating in one room for the guests invited to open presents/play shower games (different than a normal shindig we have here where everyone just stands in the kitchen or spreads out in clumps of people)
-Grandma Kathy’s famous sugar cookies
-Sandwiches/snacks
-Not scheduled on a day there is a Husker game π
-Cute plates and napkins (although I said when we were planning I didn’t need bridal shower decorations)
-And last but certainly not least–family and friends to celebrate with! Although I do wish we could celebrate with male and female friends (maybe that is what an engagement party is all about), I think it will still be fun to get together with the ladies. π
Wish us luck! I will try to let you all know how it went! Maybe after it’s over I will be an expert on throwing a bridal shower and will be able to share my words of wisdom…
So tell me…
Am I missing anything? Are you a fan of bridal showers?

Bridal showers are awkward! π I broke one of my gifts while opening it and I’m still embarrassed about that.
PS People LOVE getting paper goods in the mail, so think of that when you send out your invites and shower invitations! I send so much more mail now than I used to because it’s so fun to get things in the mail. (and I like paper haha).

Oh no!! I really hope I don’t but that sounds like something I would do haha.
