I set up our very own online wedding RSVP on this very site (after much trouble).
I am very proud, but you might not realize how much of an effort it was. Allow me to explain in case you want to do the same or just brag if you’re curious. 😉
Ninja Forms Plugin for WordPress as an Online Wedding RSVP
If you know anything about using WordPress, I ended up using the Ninja Forms plugin. I tried out about 3 other plugins that just did not work for me before I landed on this one. I was a bit frantic because I had already sent out some of the Save the Dates saying, “RSVP early here.”
But I’m sure no one had even looked at the site yet.
( it’s proving to be a bit of a challenge! )
The Ninja Forms WordPress Plugin is very user friendly. It’s basically a drag and drop system that is easy to modify.
I even got it so that I can see all of the important information at a glance (without having to open up each one individually). Originally I had asked the question, “Are you able to attend?” before the question about the number of people. I eventually figured out that if they just answered the question of how many people…that would give the yes or no. Hopefully that doesn’t seem to informal!
And yes, I did RSVP myself and Dave.
Nerd alert.
PS if you have no idea what I’m talking about when I say WordPress or plugin, it’s all good. You’re not alone. In fact, it’s very likely you aren’t a website nerd like me.
I was telling Dave’s sister that I was working on setting up an online wedding RSVP on our wedding website and she gave me a confused look and suggested I just set one up on theknot.com. She must not have realized how much I love setting up websites/blogging (I’ve set up about 5 of my own and at least a dozen for other bloggers).
Also there is the fact that I tend to make things harder than they have to be.
I mean, my hope is always that the extra work will pay off in the long run.
I like to think I did okay with setting this wedding website up. I do like the fact that I own it and some online wedding company doesn’t–you never know what could happen. I plan on keeping it around a little while in case I am able to share helpful wedding planning posts other clueless brides might stumble upon. I’ve also heard this whole wedding thing will be over before we know it and it will be nice to have documentation. 🙂
Anyways, the wedding RSVP page is up (and if you received a save the date, don’t hesitate to RSVP early!) but I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the form behind a password protected page. All of the wedding info is on another page that is password protected (you know, stranger danger), so everything except for the wedding start time is there at this time.
If you see anything on the form I should add or anything, please let me know. I swear I stared at that thing for 3 days straight, but it’s definitely possible I spaced something.
Even likelier that I misspelled something.
Oh and the save the dates!
The last blog post was all about the wedding save the dates we were looking at, but it turns out we didn’t use any of those original options. Instead my friend Calee offered to design a few for us based on the fonts we liked and the colors on our website.
It’s so simple, but perfect for what we wanted.
She also recommended that we go with VistaPrint instead of Shutterfly and we ended up saving about $40. The margin was cut off quite a bit which I didn’t like at first, but I’m sure no one else noticed. Hopefully.
Hashtag blessed.
Seriously, I am humbled by the number of people who are offering help for our wedding. I honestly tend to think of myself a bit of a loner (thank God for Dave and his ability to make friends at the drop of a hat!), but people keep offering little or big ways to help make the process a little easier and I’m so grateful!
So tell us…
Have you seen other RSVP methods aside from the traditional paper and envelope?
Are we missing anything?
