Save the dates are next on our wedding planning to do list! Here are some ideas I’ve found.
Before save the dates, we had to come up with a list. That was challenging, not only picking who would and wouldn’t be invited, but just coordinating with family members to get their lists together.
And we still haven’t even gotten addresses from everyone. Oops!
Save the Dates and Timing
We still have plenty of time before the wedding, but I had a goal to get save the dates ordered over my spring break. That did not happen.
Then I thought I would do it in May because I’m out of school now…but I’m also working as much as I can, so life is still busy.
As far as recommended timeframes, I’ve seen anywhere from 6 months to 8-10 months in advance.
March (spring break) would have put us at 9 months which is pretty early, so June is the next goal which is 6 months in advance.
I really wanted to get ahead of things because I didn’t want to be too stressed during the fall semester…so hopefully writing a post about it will get me back into the mode of wedding planning!
Save the Date Ideas
I have checked out shutterfly* and love the idea of sending a magnet save the date. I have a couple of magnet save the dates on my profile…which do you like?
And yes, we like this picture of us. No, we don’t have any professional ones to speak of. We never really did engagement photos and at this point it seems a little late for that…is that weird?
The nice thing about Shutterfly* is that the more save the dates you order, the less they are per save the date. I mean, it’s nice for us since apparently we are inviting everyone we’ve ever met. 😉
PS remember how I wasn’t going to include a wedding date because of stranger danger on the blog anymore? Well, I’m too lazy to edit these photos, so it’s there.
Save the Date and Wedding Invite Ideas
I’m also a little obsessed with my friend Calee’s wedding invites. She has a number of wedding invitation suites (as she calls them) and I might pick one of those and make our invites on a printing press. How cool would that be??
I would of course try to change the colors to as close to our wedding colors as possible, but I love the fun fonts.
I also love the look of hand lettering. I wonder if Calee would personally hand letter something for our wedding invites? She might be too busy to make new designs and I know transferring hand lettering is tricky, so I’d definitely settle for these fonts.
So, that’s kind of where we are at right now! Haven’t really done any planning for a couple of months, but hopefully this post will kick our booties into gear.
{ Update to add: you can see a photo of one of our save the dates on our fridge here }
So tell us…
Where did you get your save the dates and/or invites?
Are we the only ones who haven’t had any professional photos done yet??

Yay! Thanks for sharing these! 🙂 Looking forward to talking on Saturday! I love the photo of you guys.
PS: 6 months is industry standard for save the dates (industry meaning event industry). Everywhere I’ve worked we’ve sent STDs (lol that’s what we call them) for alumni/development events 6 months in advance. I think 8-10 months is more for a destination wedding so you can give guests more time to prepare.

PPS: just looked at the wedding colors. Depending on how many you need and how much time you have to come help (lol) we can add some actual gold!
PPPS: I just found DIY gold foil instructions, so I have another way we can add actual gold! Now I’m getting ultra pumped. 🙂

YAY!!! I feel so special because I already had the date! 😉 Also, I have a bulletin board in my kitchen so regardless of how you send it, I’ll hang it up in my kitchen. 🙂 Weeeeee!
